Displace, the superb funk fusion band from Tampa, is about to embark on the second half of their album release tour with 13 dates in Colorado. Undertow, the excellent second album from this fine quartet, was debuted June 25th in Tampa. Since then, they played a series of dates in Florida, including the Great Outdoors Jam, and then shows in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.

Undertow was self-recorded in Tampa by Vinny Svoboda, bassist for the band and founder of VATS Productions, along with help from the band’s drummer Tucker Sody and guitarist Sam Dobkin. The band’s first album, Eureka!, was a masterpiece. This new album is no less. Watch a 360-degree video of “Soup” from the album here.

The quartet of Svoboda, Tucker, Dobkin and Chris Scammato (vocals, guitar, alto saxophone and keyboards) has been performing together for years to great acclaim. They were joined on stage by Holly Bowling at AURA Music and Arts Festival in March. They also recently held their second week-long residency at Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West.

Dobkin also has an excellent music project called Trivecta. During this Colorado tour, he will be at Monstercat in Canada working on that project. Fortunately, one of Tampa’s best guitarists was able to fill in for these dates. Jordan Garno plays with Serotonic, Infinite Groove Orchestra, Leisure Chief and The Third Kind, all funk-jazz-fusion purveyors. Garno is the perfect fit during Dobkin’s absence.

There are many more dates on the horizon, most notably the Soulshine Music and Arts Festival in NC (August 11-13) and the Zen Awakening Festival in Orlando (November 18-20).

Displace is managed by Bret Peretz and Don’t Fret Productions.
