Florida, brace yourself! Zappa Plays Zappa is coming to town. Four towns, actually. This is the start of the fall tour which will wind its way up the east coast, head midwest, then southwest before jumping across the pond for a dozen dates, then Mexico, Canada and the west coast. Those are some frequent flier miles!
Those first four nights find the amazing ZPZ sextet at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale September 10th, then Jannus Live in St. Petersburg on the 11th. The tour then rolls to Plaza Live in Orlando the next night and finally the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. It has been a few years since Dweezil and company graced Florida (except, of course, for the brilliant show at the Wanee Festival this year. [They played Florida in ’06, ’08, ’10 and ’11.]
Zappa-philes know the drill: this is real. MusicFestNews has posted often about the band, including an article from April titled “Wanee 2015: Why Zappa Plays Zappa Matters,” which you can read here. A review of the Wanee performance was excerpted when this tour was announced in June, and you can read that one here.
But let’s leave it Dweezil, Scheila Gonzalez, Ben Thomas, Chris Norton, Kurt Morgan and Ryan Brown to convince you. There are numerous videos available to watch online, but these feature the current band, which has been spotlighting the magnificent 1975 FZ opus One Size Fits All.
With that in mind, from Royal Oak MI on 04/03/15, Sofa No. 1 > Po-Jama People
From 04/04/15, another slice from OSFA: San Ber’Dino > Andy > Sofa No. 2
From a show in Buenos Aires 05/16/15: Uncle Remus > More Trouble Coming Every Day > The Grand Wazoo
And finally a short video that will put tears in the eyes of every old-school Frank-o-phile:
“Bring the band on down behind me!”
“Good night, boys and girls!”
