I have finally figured out what the problem is. There is WAAAAY too much great music out there. OK, it’s only a problem because I cannot get to it all. But this weekend, I made three more great discoveries (for me).
On Saturday, at WMNF’s Groovefest 4 (hosted by Thor at Skipper’s), the Heavy Pets absolutely blew it out. It was my 16th Pets show, and it topped all the others. They were deep in the groove. The surprise, however, was Come Back Alice, a spectacular quartet from Sarasota, I think. Fronted by Tony Tyler on guitar and vocals and Dani Jaye on violin and vocals, they opened with an incredible cover of “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” and closed with an even more righteous cover of “Whipping Post.” Jammed in between were lots of great originals. And Savi Fernandez guested on one tune and shredded the entire Skipperdome, I think. The CBA youTube stuff is good, but, like most of our music, you need to see them live.
My job is seriously impeding my ability to hear more music!
