SADDLE UP PARTNER!! Pigeons Playing Ping Pong + Dopapod Fall Tour 2016 begins this Wednesday… and it’s gonna be EPIC AF!!!
Well, that’s the post from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and Dopapod would surely agree! The tour kicked off last night (October 5) in Jacksonville. They have four more Florida dates (Matthew willing) before heading up the East coast and then into the Midwest, with the tour stretching into the middle of December. Tonight finds them in Gainesville, Friday in St. Petersburg, Ft. Lauderdale Saturday and Orlando Sunday.
MATTHEW HAS FORCED THE CANCELLATION OF TONIGHT’S SHOW IN GAINESVILLE.
This pairing of bands WILL be epic AF! Dopapod purports to play “progressive rock and dance music,” hailing from the Northeast and Colorado. Baltimore’s Pigeons bring you “high-energy psychedelic funk.” Anyone who has seen them will assure you that trying to label them is like herding cats: these guys can do anything!
Dopapod are: Eli Winderman, keyboards; Rob Compa, guitar; Chuck Jones, bass; Neal “Fro” Evans, drums; and Luke Stratton, sound & lights. Evans, the band’s original drummer, just returned from a hiatus with the band. You can read more about that here.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are: Scrambled Greg, vocals, guitar; Jeremy Schon, guitar, vocals; Ben Carrey, bassics, vocals; Alex Petropulos, drums, electronics; and Manny Newman, flashy lights.
Both bands have been fan favorites at festivals for years and have avid followers (the Flock, for instance). And note that each band proudly takes its lighting man on the road (Stratton also handles sound): these guys are true professionals!
Dopapod are diligent about releasing every show on Bandcamp, and PPPP have released a number of shows, including their superb set at AURA this past March. And their most recent album is Pleasure.
If you’re looking to have your mind blown and your face melted, then these are just the guys who can do it!
