When the rumors started, there was every reason to scoff. YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! Stones, Dylan, a Beatle? At a festival? C’mon!
We know now, of course, that the Coachella folks have repurposed the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California, and they lined up the heaviest of the heavy hitters from the amazing world of classic rock: Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, The Who and Roger Waters. And they properly dubbed it Desert Trip.
The enormity of the lineup was simply mind-blowing. You kept thinking: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. But it IS true! All six bands will provide thousands upon thousands of fans the opportunity to hear six of the most important names in the relatively short history of rock and roll. If you’d been asked to put together a lineup for your own festival, you couldn’t have outdone this one.
Unless you are the Desert Trip folks, Coachella organizers Goldenvoice/AEG Live. They decided it was so nice they ought to do it twice. And so the festival has spawned a second weekend with the identical lineup. The original dates announced were Friday, October 7 – Sunday, October 9, and now all six will reprise their performances Friday, October 14 – Sunday, October 16.
The Friday shows will open with Bob Dylan and His Band, followed by The Rolling Stones. Saturdays have Sir Paul McCartney closing after Neil Young + Promise of the Real. The Who “opens” on Sundays, with Roger Waters putting the lid on the festival.
There are numerous options for passes to the festival, including general admission and VIP general admission, the standing pit, reserved floor seats, and reserved grandstand seats. There is a lot to read concerning camping, RVs, hotels and more on the official website.
Are you SURE this is real? Seems like a dream. Perhaps you CAN get some satisfaction after all!
