Roosevelt Collier’s closing Suwannee getdown sets at the AURA Music and Arts Festival and at the Purple Hatter’s Ball were so successful and so popular that the only logical thing to do was to create a new event. Even better, TWO new events!
The first of two Roosevelt Collier’s Suwannee Getdowns takes place at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak FL on Friday and Saturday, June 26th and 27th. Along with two nights of camping, you get – naturally – two nights of The DR. and his trio.
On Friday, two fine bands from Gainesville will join Roosevelt. Flat Land, who played two killer sets at Purple Hatter’s, bring their “cosmifunkpop” to the park, but that definition barely scratches the surface. Locochino will join them Friday. Both of these bands defy classification: they can lure you with intricate subtlety one moment and rock you over the next.
Saturday brings to the stage The Groove Orient from Orlando and Squeedlepuss from Jacksonville. Both bands delivered absolutely knock-out jamming sets at the Orange Blossom Jamboree, and both will be at the Great Outdoors Jam Fourth of July weekend (along with Flat Land), so you know they are in prime festival condition!
In addition to these five superb bands, there will be DJ sets at the Beach Stage and the Music Hall Courtyard coordinated by Reunion: Campout Concert Series (a word about that below). Count on grooving to Vlad the Inhaler, Matthew Connor, Jai.Mal, Charlie Hustle, Triclops I, and Damballa. The Beach Stage will be open from noon to 6 PM. The courtyard stage will feature sets in between the band performances at night.
Get yourself locked in for this one, and lock it in as well for the second round on July 31st and August 1st, when Roosevelt does it all over again. You know you need an appointment with The DR.!
Also new this summer is Reunion: Campout Concert Series, presented by Trey Hebron August 21st and 22nd. Check the link below for more information, and expect updates soon!
