TRIFECTA INDEED!
Poetry ‘N Lotion is a very different band than before. I loved the old sound, but this new version is superior. Guitar, bass and drums now fronted by trumpet and trombone. Really punchy jazzy stuff. I was knocked out.
d’Visitors is a band I would attempt to label Afropop, but they cover a lot of bases (basses?). Nikki Ferraro, for my 2 cents, is the best vocalist in this area. She can really belt a tune without screaming it.
And the Mike Dillon Band. To me, more punk-metal-jazz in the Dead Kenny Gs vein — right up my alley. Dillon is a master and has surrounded himself with superb musicians. It’s tough not to point out Carly Meyers first, a whirling dervish pixie with a trombone. Cliff Hines added layer upon layer with his guitar, and Adam Gertner was the perfect drummer to accompany Dillon. It was a wonderful, wonderful night of music.
I like holding the winning ticket!
